welding a wheel lift is it better to replace? heavy duty wrecker, wheel lift 55,000 capacity welded 6 times keeps breaking welds would be better to replace??????

Welding it a seventh time has got to be the charm, no way It'll break again, right? wELDING is stronger thasn the steel it holds together, but you've welded it 6 times. Time for replacement, maybe a better one. Without knowing the shape of the part that keeps breaking, it's difficult to tell you the best fix. YES, change it, too many welds affects steel integrity. I drive tow truck also.

What kind of shocks should I get for my '94 z24 Chevy Cavalier? I've been looking for shocks for my car for a little while now since the ones on there are blown due to age. My car is a daily driver. I've been looking at RockAuto's selection which is larger and cheaper than AutoZone's. I've checked on some sites and they've recommended using KYB GR-2s for my car. What brand should I go with fo shocks? I'm looking at the KYB GR-2s and Monroe Sensa-Trac. I have Gabriel struts in the front which was a mistake but they came new and free with my car at the time. I'm much more focused on the shocks right now. I'm avoiding anything to do with air adjusting shocks. car insurance.

Infiniti . How to Troubleshoot a 1988 Corvette Engine

Engine trouble is sometimes baffling. Hunting down the problem can be a lengthy and costly process, but by applying basic troubleshooting strategies, you can eliminate many possibilities. Check the gauges on your 1988 Corvette for indications of trouble first. A below-normal battery reading, an unsteady tachometer or a hot oil temperature are signs of the root of the problem. Make sure your fluids are at appropriate levels and don't neglect routine maintenance.
Difficulty:Moderately Challenging
Instructions Things You'll Need
1988 Corvette owner's manual
Jumper wire
Volt meter
Fuse tester

Step by Step :
1
Check your Corvette for stored engine codes. Engine codes are recorded in the car's computer when an error occurs and saved for diagnostics. Use a jumper wire to connect two terminals in the Assembly Line Diagnostic Link (ALDL), located either under the dash or under the hood (see your Corvette manual for ALDL terminal identifiers). Turn the engine on and read fault codes from the "check engine" light. Record codes and consult your manual for code meanings.
2
Check your fuses for breaks, which cause interruptions in electrical flow. Check beneath the dash on the passenger side of the car for the fuse box. Remove the panel to reveal the fuses. Turn the car on. Ground your fuse tester to a good ground like a metal bolt or metal plate. Touch the end of the tester to each fuse. A broken fuse will fail to make the tester bulb light.
3
Check your battery and alternator for sufficient voltage using a volt meter. To test the battery, connect the positive tester end to the positive battery post and likewise with the negative, while the car is off. Your battery voltage should read between 12.5 and 12.8. Crank the engine to test the alternator. The volt meter should read between 13.6 and 14.3 for the alternator.
4
Look for a pattern in your Corvette's behavior. Common engine trouble, such as cranking but not continuing to run or running but experiencing trouble while running, has to do with operating or environmental conditions. For instance, the engine only has the problem when cold or hot, or only when it's raining.
5
Look under the hood for obvious problems. Check for a loose, torn or frayed serpentine belt. Check hoses for breaks, soft spots and collapse. Look for corrosive material in areas such as the battery terminals, water pump and radiator. Check the radiator for signs of damage or clogging.
6
Check your thermostat in overheating problems. If the thermostat isn't opening at the correct temperature, your engine won't be able to cool itself. Crank the engine and allow it to warm to operating temperature. Place your hand on the upper radiator hose. If it's hot to the touch, the thermostat has opened to release heat. If it's cool, the thermostat isn't opening.
7
Make a note of motion-related issues. If the engine has trouble over a certain speed or when on rough road, wiring connections may be loose.
8
Test your starter. If your headlights come on when you turn the key but the engine fires sluggishly, your starter could be experiencing too great a load. If your headlights come on but your starter fails to crank the engine, you may have an open circuit. If your engine cranks but the starter makes grinding noises, your starter may have fractured armature.
Tips & Warnings
Never disconnect a battery while the engine is running.

Infiniti . How to Troubleshoot Sounds From a Car

There is nothing more irritating than when you have an annoying rattling or grinding sound coming from your car, and you cannot for the life of you pinpoint the exact location. Sometimes these noises point to relatively minor problems, however, if left alone without attention, they could turn into a larger headache.

Before you take your car in to the shop for what could potentially turn out to be a costly repair, there are a few basic troubleshooting steps you can perform on your own to help avoid that.
Difficulty:Moderately Easy
Instructions

Step by Step :
1
Inspect the cooling fan if you hear a clicking sound. Turn the engine off and open the hood. Spin the fan blade by hand to see if it is rubbing against the plastic fan shroud. If it is, you will need to have the fan motor repositioned. If the fan blade does not turn freely, it could mean that the fan motor has failed and will need to be replaced.
2
Check the level of brake fluid if you hear a bubbling sound. Open the cap to the brake fluid on the master brake cylinder. Check that the brake fluid is not so low that it might be allowing air to get trapped within the system. This can produce a bubbling sound. Refill the reservoir with brake fluid, taking care not to overfill. Inspect the system for any leaks. Repair if necessary and then bleed the brake system.
3
Inspect the brake pads for any wear if you hear a chirping noise. An indicator attached to the brake system will often warn a driver that the brake pads are worn below the required thickness. The sound produced is a "chirping". Have the brake pads replaced as necessary.
4
Inspect the vacuum hoses connected to the intake manifold if there is a whistling sound coming from the car. Have an assistant step on the gas while the car is parked and listen for where the whistling sound increases. Look for any hoses that have holes in them or are cracked and worn. Replace as necessary.
5
Check the catalytic converter under the vehicle if there is a rattling sound coming from the car. The catalytic converter is part of the exhaust system, designed to burn unused fuel from the system and improve air quality. After the vehicle has cooled, gently tap the catalytic converter with a rubber mallet and listen for a rattling sound. It could be that a ceramic element inside the converter has broken and is creating the rattling. If you detect any rattle, the catalytic converter will need to be replaced.

Don't forget to buy new hose clamps. They should be large enough to fit the outside diameter of the hose. . Chapter 14: Keeping Your Car from Getting Heartburn !? 12 Clamps are so inexpensive that you should make it a habit to replace them whenever you change a hose. If you are changing a hose that was secured with wire hose clamps or screw-type clamps, replace them with gear-type clamps. Figure 14-8 shows all three types of clamps. Here's how to deal with each kind: Wire hose clamps: I hate these clamps. To deal with them, you need a special tool called wire hose clamp pliers that has a slit inside each of its jaws for gripping the ends of the clamps. Instead of buying one, either find something to pinch the wire ends together so that you can slip them off the hose, or bust them loose any way you can — use a saw, if necessary; you're going to throw them out anyway. 702 Car Insurance gmc savana 3500 cargo 2001 209010

" Screw-type clamps: These clamps don't loosen easily, so they're often found on radiator hoses and the like to keep them in place. Unscrew the screw and remove it. Then slip your screwdriver under the clamp and loosen it. To avoid the hassle of reinserting the screw, replace with gear- type clamps. Gear-type clamps: These clamps are my favorites. Just use a screwdriver to turn the screw counterclockwise to loosen the clamp, slip the clamp over the hose, slip the end of the new hose in place, and turn the screw clockwise to tighten the clamp. Easy!

Gear-type clamp Wire hose clamp Figure 14-8: Various types of hose clamps. Screw-type clamp It's impossible to tell someone in a book how tight or loose a clamp should be. If the clamp is so tight that it appears to be cutting into the hose, loosen it. If you can hear or see air or liquid escaping from the ends of the hose, the clamp should be tighter. Give the hose a tug to see whether it's secure, and check it again after you've run the engine to make sure that it isn't leaking. 5 1 A Part III: Keeping Your Car in Good Condition, System by System Replacing hoses The basic process of changing a hose is quite simple (see Figure 14-9), but there are differences depending on the type of hose you're replacing: 1. Wipe pipe end clean.

Figure 14-9: How to install a hose. If the hose is a vacuum hose: You'll find literally nothing in it. Just loosen the clamps, remove the hose, slide the new clamps on the new hose, slip the ends of the hose over whatever they connect to, and tighten the clamps. If the hose is a fuel hose: When the engine is shut off, most of the fuel flows back to the fuel tank. So you need only to stick the first end of the hose you remove into a clean can and allow whatever fuel remains in the hose to drain into it. When you finish the job, pour the fuel in the can back into your gas tank. (If you've managed to contaminate the fuel, put it into a container with a tight-fitting lid and take it to a toxic waste disposal center.) Obviously, you're not going to smoke while you do this job! Also, if any fuel leaks onto the ground, clean it up thoroughly and dispose of the rags immediately so that they won't be a fire hazard. . Chapter 14: Keeping Your Car from Getting Heartburn 2 1 C If the hose contains liquid under pressure: To prevent leaks, some manuals suggest putting a water-resistant sealant on the ends of the fittings to which the hose connects. Because these sealants tend to make the hoses difficult to remove when you need to replace them again, I suggest that you try it without sealant first. In most cases, if the hose is the right one and the clamps are on tight enough, you should be able to get by without it. If the hose leaks, you can always go back and use the sealant as recommended. If the hose is a radiator or heater hose: You'll need a bucket or pan that holds at least 2 gallons of liquid to catch the coolant and water that will run out of the system.
